About Our Guest

Ivan Vasquez

Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, Ivan Vasquez was raised with traditional recipes passed down through several generations. At 16 years old, Vasquez moved to Los Angeles and began working in the restaurant industry, climbing the corporate ranks at a fast-casual concept over 15 years to become the regional manager for Los Angeles County. In 2012, he purchased his first restaurant in Culver City, introducing Oaxacan cuisine and mezcal to a 30-year-old existing restaurant neighborhood establishment. Following five years of success, and noticing a lack of Oaxacan cuisine in the South Bay, Vasquez opened Madre in Torrance in 2017, which now features traditional dishes based on his mother’s recipes and the largest variety of mezcal in the USA. He subsequently expanded the concept with Madre West Hollywood in 2020 and Madre Santa Clarita in 2023.
